SuperHatch was back at Kyalami for the winter races and we had another fantastic entry of 29 cars. Even with this number we were still combined with other categories, the MPC with their 17 cars for the first heat and Silvercup with their 15 cars for the second heat. This was done to keep the entry cost within affordable limits.

So SuperHatch did what SuperHatch does best and had fun, made the most of the day, and put on a great show.

Warm up saw Mark Silverwood (OKI MINI) post the quickest time in class A ahead of Mark du Toit’s Honda Civic (TAR) and rookie driver Brett Garland (DT Formwork) Honda Civic in third. Class B went to the ASAP Peugeot 206 of Hilton van Nieuwenhuizen from Chris Davison in the Opel Superboss and Nic Martin (RDG Opel Kadett). Class C’s quickest man was Jeff Langeveldt (Fury Ford Fiesta) from James Menin (West cars Opel Kadett) and Vernon Visagie’s Fiat Palio (Uno’s Africa’s spares). Class N’s Anvar Haffejee had a lonely outing being the only class N car there.

The first session at 08:45 was practice and about half the field ended up having at least one spin on the cold track, but still the pace was being set early and it was clear who would be in the front of each class, and the official warm up at 10:00am confirmed our guesses. Class A saw the OKI MINI of Mark Silverwood set the pace with a 2:02:864 ahead of Mark du Toit in the TAR Honda Civic and Lee Thompson in the Harness Co. Golf Mk1. Class B went to Hilton van Nieuwenhuizen in the ASAP Peugeot setting a time of 2:06:420 ahead of Mel Spurr in the ASAP, Wealth Ave, Harness Co. Opel Corsa and Chris… Continue reading
