After an endurance race at their last outing, the Car Care Clinic SuperHatch competitors will return to their usual sprint race format when they make their way to Red Star Raceway for the penultimate round of their 2022 championship on 8 & 9 October.
Nic Martin (Peugeot 207) didn’t have a good outing at Phakisa and has dropped down the overall championship standings. He is now in fourth place behind Francis Aldrich (Opel Corsa), Devon Piazza Musso (Hot 102.7 FM Racing VW Polo) and Andre Dannhauser (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Corsa). Christiaan van Wyk (NBR Karting Ford Figo) and Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom Hyundai Getz) round out the top six in the overall standings.
After his win in Welkom, Dannhauser has moved to the top of the Class A standings, 12 points ahead of Archer, with Karel Stols (PTA Noord Toyota Etios) dropping down to third. All three of them should be in action at Red Star, as will Francois Henning (VW Polo), Dhiren Ganasen (Honda Civic) and Andre de Lange (Roofsure VW Golf).
Martin will be looking to bounce back after his problems in Phakisa but will have to fight off Christiaan van Wyk (NBR Karting Ford Figo) and Mel Spurr (Car Care Clinic VW Polo) if he is to return to winning ways in Class B. Despite his Free State frustrations, Martin still leads the Class B standings from van Wyk and Spurr.
The top two in the overall championship, Aldrich and Piazza Musso, are also the top two on the Class C championship log. They will be joined on track by Freddy Watkins (4js Auto/Gear Down VW Polo) and George Aldrich (Peugeot 206).
As usual, the drivers will prepare themselves for race action with several practice sessions on Friday before tackling a qualifying session at 08h40 on Saturday morning. The two 8-lap races are scheduled to start at 11h35 and 14h35.
