Round 4 – Extreme Festival – Zwartkops Raceway 17th of June 2017

Spurr RacingHome circuit and finally our debut in the SuperHatch spec car that we will now be running for the 2017 season…

After a few rounds with borrowed cars that are not quite the right thing for SuperHatch, this past weekend saw us take to the tarmac in the Silver bullet VW Polo… lots of development still to do and unfortunately having to run in class A due to the car having a turbo, BUT being on track and off pace, it always better than being a spectator….

Friday saw us get in one short session and the car fits like a glove, which is always a great start, being totally comfortable in the seat makes the world of difference.

Race day saw a short early morning warm up session and a qualifying, and then 2 heats of 8 laps each combined with the 111 Sports & Saloon class E cars, so a nice big field of 32 cars and as always super close and fun, fun, fun.

In race 1 I started 6th in class A and on the grid, had a fairly good start (but not what it should be) …the little 1.2 engine and I hung onto the faster cars for as long as possible, but in the end the best we could manage was a 5th in class A and 17th overall.

All was not lost as with SuperHatch the top 5 per class get reversed for the start of the next race… so pole position it was yes both in class and overall…..

Lights on and off and not the best of starts and slightly swamped by turn 2, but a great battle throughout the race with the faster cars coming through and hanging onto some of the more evenly matched ones too.

Race 2 saw us finish 4th in class A and 11th on the road overall

All in all it was a good race with no damage to the car or engine, which in itself is a good result

We will be doing work from round to round and with the Nathans motorsport team on hand and ensuring we get quicker and quicker…. Watch this space, each round we will have a better result and become more and more competitive.

Thank YOU for all the ongoing support of my AMAZING sponsors

Next Race – Saturday 22nd of July – The annual Phakisa 200km race…
