Friday practice, and only one session was managed as duty calls and the office is a big part of my race day – I wasn’t superfast but I managed to be quickest in class C (With my nemesis Andre De Lange not out for that session)
Saturday morning
Qualifying and I set an average time with a 1.20:287, putting me 2nd quickest in class C… and in a respectable 14th overall ☺ very chuffed ahead of a number of class B boys.
I ended up 4th in class on the grid which meant 24th overall, due to the reverse grid from the finishing results from Phakisa.
Race one: saw a few guys get their grid slots all wrong… and this caused me to not see the lights once we had a few parked in the wrong spots and skew across the grid.. (in front of me)
But I had a good start and managed to get to them and catch up to some of the class B guys too and managed to get past 2 of the class guys catching up and moving to 2nd in class… With just Robert to pass, I got him but Andre had gotten past us both and got the lead. I just could not get past the slower class B cars, and had to settle for 2nd place in class C and this put me
16th on the road.
Race 2: And the usual top 5 reversal on finishing order again put me 4th in class and 24th on the grid. This time I had a slightly better start but with a little to much wheel spin.
But ensured I stayed with the bunch and avoided the spinning class A cars in turn 1 off the start, I got up to 2nd within 2 laps and again was in the mix of the mid pack class B cars, I just
couldn’t get them as while catching them in the corners, the straights they pull away with the extra power.
I took the flag in 2nd place in class and managed to finish up 14th on the road this time
All in all a great day and brought the car home in one piece.
And taking 2nd in class for the day and ensuring I get those all-important championship points which have now moved me up to 2nd in class and 3rd overall.
There was a bumper crowd at Zwartkops and it was an awesome day for us.

The next round of the championship will be as part of the Sasol Race day at Zwartkops on the 8th of August
