Spurr Racing set out to the Meyerton circuit – Midvaal this past weekend for round one of the SuperHatch championship..
We now fit (almost) into the correct class, with our class B/C car J, at least we are not forced into Class A anymore due to the turbo motor (this is bearing in mind it is still a little 1.2 motor) ;-)
Friday I did all the sessions, HOWEVER my head was not in the game, after the very sad news a day earlier of good friend and long-time sponsor of mine Craig Shorter who had succumbed to a rather sudden heart attack L….and I was really neither here nor there, and I ensured a good night’s rest, and a fresh new approach for Saturday morning, and I went out for qualifying (not my strongest trait) I managed to put the car 9th in class B … not great, but a good spot for our power to weight ratio non the less. My grid slot 17th due to Class A being put ahead of us, then class B…
Race 1:
And I did it! I finally got it right to get this little turbo pocket rocket off the line! A cracker of a start that even put a smile on the Big man Mr Nathans face… I had taken a spot off the line and into turn 1, in a small battle with Ish, but he got away as each lap went by, but then with 3 to go I managed to pass Alex, and this left me to take the flag in 7th in class and 10th on the road.
Race 2:
Meant 7th in class for the grid and this time 15th on the road, another good start, but not quite the same big smile creator as with the first one… but I was in the bunch and hung on as long as possible, this time I had Ish off the line too and there was no ways I would be letting him through anytime soon, he tried a few times, but I slammed the door closed rather firmly, once through the fast sweep off the back straight, (I still don’t know how, don’t ask) but I held him off, but this time, didn’t catch Alex, but I took the flag in 6th in class and again 10th on the road.
A 7th in class for the day and 7th on index, to add to the good day no dents, no issues and a nice day at the track
The next round will be at Zwartkops on the 17th of March, where we plan to improve on round ones result.
