This past weekend was round 4 of the SuperHatch championship at my home track Zwartkops.
After a load of work and a complete new engine, we were ready to make it all count. Friday afternoon however, the Little Black Number again decided it was not to be and in the 2nd session – we had run a bearing.
Not the start to the weekend we were hoping for. But Peter du Toit and Trans Africa Racing again made the trusty Honda Civic available for me to go and have some fun.
Saturday morning qualifying and I was so slow. I almost needed a calendar for my lap times (when borrowing someone else’s car – Take It Easy – Stay Out Of Trouble) I took this to another level.

The battle scared Honda
Race 1 – So there I was last in class B on the grid, and I finished there too – But I had stayed out of trouble and that was WAY more important as I didn’t want to break any more cars.
Race 2 – and again I started last in class B, into turn 2 on the opening lap, I turned in and heard screeching brakes and bang I had been T-Boned in the corner by Robert, and bang another hit as Robert got bumped from behind and another blow.
I pulled away and shook the steering everything felt fine and off I set a lot quicker than the first races lap times (not hard when so slow… amazing what some red mist does. I still finished last but brought the little trusty steed home with a right side that was a little sad and not quite the way I had got her. So a few apologies and thankfully no one understands racing more than Peter and as he said “ag Mel, dit kort net n polish”. If that isn’t the thing to make a girls day, I don’t know what is. Thank you Peter for understanding and being so supportive about my incident.
THE little black numbers engine is out and the new engine is being built as we speak. Phil, Gift and Solly can now almost do this with their eyes closed. Thanks to All of you for keeping me out on track.
Next Race Youth Day – Thursday 16 June – Zwartkops.
