2020 Car Care Clinic SuperHatch Championship gets underway at Red Star

The 2020 Car Care Clinic SuperHatch Championship will get underway at Red Star Raceway, just outside Delmas in Mpumalanga, on Saturday, 22 February.

The top three in last year’s championship, Nic Martin (Rex Diff & Gearbox Peugeot 207), Andre Dannhauser (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Corsa) and Brett Garland (autObarn/Incco/Sabat Honda Civic), will be back on track fighting for honours again. Garland, who won the Class A championship in 2019, is not likely to have much competition at Red Star with only Francois Henning (Select Registrations VW Polo) on the entry list at this stage.

Martin will have it a lot tougher in Class B with his main competition likely to come from Mel Spurr (Car Care Clinic/AKA Signage VW Polo) and Robert Stoltz (Lopec/EBC/Jestik Opel Kadett). They, however, won’t be the only ones in the mix. Courtney Nicholl (Volkswagen Motorsport VW Polo) will be making his SuperHatch debut while regular contender Ishmael Baloyi (Honda Civic) will also be looking for points. Assuming he can get his car ready in time, Hennie Swanepoel should also be out on track in his Polo.

Freddy Watkins (LNF Racing/4J’s Auto VW Polo), Craig Priestley (Tactical Fluid Ford Laser) and Juan van der Walt (Building Code Consultants Ford Fiesta) have all stood on the Class C podium in the past and will be looking to stop Dannhauser taking victory. Shane Forget (4J’s Auto Opel Cub) has made the move to Class C and should be a real threat. George Aldrich (Opel Corsa) should also be on the grid.

As usual, Friday will be used for practice sessions to get the cars set up after the off-season before the serious business of qualifying and racing gets underway on Saturday. The 15-minute qualifying session gets underway at 09h05 with the first of the day’s two 8-lap races scheduled to get underway at 12h38. Race 2 is the final race on the programme and should start at 16h32.
