With just 15 points separating the top six on the overall championship log, the action at the final round of the 2022 Car Care Clinic SuperHatch championship at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 12 November, is sure to be fast and furious.
Francis Aldrich (Opel Corsa) leads the way in the standings. Still, he only has a slender two-point lead over Andre Dannhauser (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Corsa), with Devon Piazza Musso (Hot 102.7 FM Racing VW Polo) a further two points back in third. Nic Martin (Rex Diff & Gearbox Peugeot 207), Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom Hyundai Getz), and Christiaan van Wyk (NBR Karting Ford Figo) complete the top six.
In Class A, Dannhauser holds a nine-point advantage over Archer, but they are unlikely to have things their way at the head of the field. Karel Stols (PTA Noord Toyota Etios) and Jonathan du Toit (Motul/Torch/CentParts Honda Civic) have both shown that they have what it takes to win races at the 2.4km Zwartkops circuit, as has Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic Honda Civic). Stephan Fouche (Pretoria Noord Toyota Run X) and Andre de Lange (Roofsure VW Golf) will also be hunting for Class A points.
Martin has a 13-point lead over van Wyk at the top of the Class B log and should be able to claim another title. Mel Spurr (Car Care Clinic VW Polo) and Ishmael Baloyi (Trans Africa Racing Honda Civic) can run near the head of the field and take points away from the title contenders.
The Class C battle is the tightest of all the class championships, with Francis Aldrich just four points ahead of Piazza Musso. Freddy Watkins (4Js Auto/Gear Down VW Polo) looks like he will claim third in the class, with George Aldrich (Peugeot 206) in fourth.
After a couple of practice sessions on Friday, the drivers will head out for their qualifying session just after four on Friday afternoon. Saturday’s two 8-lap races are scheduled to start at 10h25 and 15h10.
